This challenging trek is for people feeling fit and looking for a thrilling adventure in the Himalaya. It starts in the pristine Rolwaling Region and makes a high trek into the Khumbu region, crossing one of the highest, most difficult passes in Nepal, the Tashi Laptcha. The Rolwaling and Tashi Laptcha Trek offers the best of remote Nepal with a taste of the world famous Everest Region and unimaginable mountain views and village scenery as well as insight into the Buddhist culture and monasteries along the way.
Starting in Rolwaling, we climb over ridges, visiting majestic Bigu Nunnery and pass through traditional Sherpa villages and dense forests. We have views of Gauri-Shankar (7145 m/23816 ft), Melungtse (7181 m/23937 ft) and more as we rise to pastureland for yaks in mystical terrain, passing a glittering Tso Rolpa alpine lake as we make our way to the Tashi Laptcha. The high pass requires the expert knowledge of our experienced guide to deal with precise route details and traversing snow and ice.
We enjoy the exhilarating experience and non-stop views as we pass down into the remote Thame Valley in the Khumbu, homeland of the Sherpa. The route continues through the world-famous Namche Bazaar and then down to the mountain airport of Lukla. It is a short, scenic flight to the ancient city of Kathmandu and a chance for more exploration of its temples and monuments, and perhaps shopping for souvenirs.
Rolwaling and Tashi Laptcha is a camping trek, and we will have porters to carry supplies, a dining tent, sleeping tent and more for your comfort. The Himalaya Hikes chef will prepare delicious meals and the camp will be a cozy place to reminisce about of the day’s highlights over food and drink, under the heavenly stars.
There are many choices for more trekking in the Rolwaling and Khumbu areas, and if you would like to extend your travels, just let us know and we will arrange according to your schedule!
