Join this trek in remote eastern Nepal for an unbelievable chance to view of four of the five highest peaks on the planet! That isn’t all! The adventurous journey passes through widely diverse terrain rich with natural beauty and culture. You will often have the trail all to yourself because of the isolation of this region requires special permits to enter. Although the area was officially opened to tourists in 1988, you will likely see few other trekkers! Kanchenjunga 8586 m/28,208 ft is the world’s third highest peak and the up close views of this towering mountain are the highlight of the trek with Everest, Lhotse and Makalu, the world’s first, fourth and fifth highest peaks also soaring in the distance.
The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is much less crowded than other trekking destinations and lies at the border with Sikkim, India. This protected area is home to the elusive snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer and several species of exotic birds. The exhilarating natural beauty and ecological variety of this remote region, far from the world’s cares, will be unforgettable.
The journey starts with a scenic flight to eastern Nepal. We then join our crew and begin the trek through magnificent scenery of rural villages and farmland with terraced fields. We climb through breathtaking terrain to astonishing viewpoints where the snowy mountains seem close enough to reach out and touch! We then traverse back down into the lower regions of lush jungle and scenic villages before making a circuit to our starting point and a flight back to Kathmandu.
The Kanchenjunga region has a mix of ethnicities including Rai and Limbu, collectively known as Kirant, with distinctive cultural practices, dress and languages. The spectacular mountains, rugged terrain, beautiful landscapes and welcoming people will leave you with a feeling of being far from the world’s troubles and cares!
Kanchenjunga is a camping trek, and we will have porters to carry supplies, a dining tent, sleeping tent and more for your comfort. The Himalaya Hikes chef will make delicious meals and the camp will be a warm place to reminisce about of the day’s highlights over food and drink, under the heavenly stars.
